What does platinum-cured silicone mean?
Platinum-cured silicone uses a platinum-catalyzed addition-cure system to crosslink the silicone. The cure method can influence processing and finished-material properties, but the phrase platinum cured does not by itself prove that every formulation or finished mold is suitable for food contact.
What does food grade mean?
Food grade is a general commercial term. For a meaningful evaluation, ask which food-contact regulation, test method, or supplier declaration applies to the exact material and finished article. In the United States, food-contact substances are regulated under applicable FDA requirements, including provisions for indirect food additives and polymers. A material should not be described as “FDA approved” unless that exact claim is legally and technically supported.
Is silicone BPA free?
BPA is commonly associated with certain polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins, not the silicone polymer itself. Even so, buyers should request documentation for the complete finished silicone formulation, including additives and colorants, rather than relying on a broad material assumption.
What documentation should a commercial buyer request?
